Jishnu Dev Varma to take oath as Governor of Telangana
Hyderabad: Jishnu Dev Varma will take oath as the Governor of Telangana State at 5.03 PM at Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday.
Jishnu Dev Varma, who served as Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura State from 2018 to 2023, was appointed the new Governor of Telangana on July 27, replacing the current Governor CP Radhakrishnan, who has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra State.
Born on August 15, 1957, Jishnu Dev Varma had served as the President of Badminton Association of India. He joined the BJP in 1993 and played a key role in the party since then.
In the Tripura government, he also held the responsibilities of Power, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Finance, Planning, Science and Technology and Environment departments, but he lost the Assembly election in 2023 from Charilam in Sepahijala district.
Jishnu Dev Varma is the first person from Tripura to be appointed the Governor of a State.
