Hyderabad: Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister, Sridhar Babu, has proposed a groundbreaking tourism initiative to Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The ambitious plan seeks to transform the Kaleswaram–Manthani–Ramagiri corridor into a premier spiritual and heritage tourism circuit, showcasing India’s rich cultural and natural wealth on the global stage.

Situated along the tranquil Godavari River, the Kaleshwaram Mukteshwar Temple is a spiritual masterpiece with a history spanning over a millennium. Known as ‘Dakshina Kashi’ (The Varanasi of the South), it features two Shivlingas in its sanctum, representing Mukteshwara (Lord Shiva) and Kaleswara (Lord Yama), a rare and revered configuration.

Highlighting the temple’s significance, Minister Sridhar Babu noted its parallels with iconic spiritual landmarks like Kedarnath and Somnath. He emphasised its potential to become a world-class pilgrimage and eco-tourism hub, particularly during major events like the Saraswati Pushkaralu and Godavari Pushkaralu, which attract millions of pilgrims.

“With central government support, we can provide state-of-the-art amenities and infrastructure that will enhance the temple’s appeal to global visitors,” the minister stated.

The ancient Ramagiri Fort, perched majestically atop a hill, boasts a 1,200-year legacy interwoven with history and mythology. Featuring in the Ramayana, it is home to ancient temples, medicinal flora, and scenic waterfalls.

Calling for its inclusion in initiatives like the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, Minister Sridhar Babu described the fort as a “hidden gem” that deserves global recognition.

“The Ramagiri Fort is a living testament to India’s heritage, combining natural beauty and archaeological significance. Strategic investments could elevate it to the status of a world-class heritage site,” he said.

The minister’s proposal envisions the Kaleshwaram–Manthani–Ramagiri circuit as a flagship tourism project that harmonises history, spirituality, and natural splendor.
