Municipal officials dismantled an 80-meter section of the 23-kilometer long solar-powered cycling track along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) on Tuesday. This move was made to create space for traffic movement at Nanakramguda, while the rest of the track will remain intact, according to authorities.
The dismantling of this popular landmark, especially cherished by fitness enthusiasts, has sparked significant criticism on social media. However, many daily commuters in the Nanakramguda area have welcomed the decision, arguing that easing traffic congestion is more crucial than maintaining an underused cycling track.
Despite this, some social media users have expressed skepticism about the unannounced removal of part of the cycling track for regular traffic flow.
Senior traffic officials from Cyberabad clarified that the removal is to accommodate a ramp that will aid traffic from Khajaguda. This small down ramp after Nanakramguda is expected to save commuters time and improve traffic management.
The 23-kilometer cycle track along the ORR, known as the ‘Healthway Cycling Track,’ was inaugurated during the BRS government's tenure in early 2023. This unique facility, featuring a global design, is divided into two distinct sections: an 8.5-kilometer stretch from TGPA to Nanakramguda, and a 14.5-kilometer stretch from Narsingi to Kollur.
