A hotel owner accused of secretly recording intimate videos of guests using spy cameras installed in the rooms and extorting money from them was arrested by the RGI Airport police on Thursday.
The suspect, Ganesh is a native of Andhra Pradesh and he had been operating a hotel along the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Highway for the past couple of years. According to the police, Ganesh specifically targeted young unmarried couples by giving them rooms at low prices.
During the check-in process, Ganesh reportedly noted down the phone numbers and personal details of the couples. He later contacted them, threatening to release their intimate videos unless they paid him.
The incident came into the limelight only after a couple who had been blackmailed by Ganesh approached the police and lodged a complaint.
Following the complaint, the police arrested Ganesh and discovered that he had installed spy cameras in the switchboards and ceilings of the rooms to record the couples' private moments.
These recordings were then used to extort money from the victims.
Two mobile phones containing multiple videos were seized from Ganesh. Further investigations are ongoing.
