HMDA converts water body to residential zone creating controversy

A notice issued from Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority a month ago, that it was converting part of the land that is under water bodies and partially buffer zone to a residential zone has sparked a furor with conservationists expressing doubt about the decision.

HMDA converts water body to residential zone to identify the fixes. The creation of HYDRAA is the result of collusion between local government and politicians who gained from the areas falling between the FTL of water bodies.

No matter their position or influence, no matter if they are well-known or leaders in the political arena any person who is involved in these infringements could be punished.

This illegal practice impacted the fundamentals of the majority of water bodies. We are very clear on our goals. We aim to stop the over-development of water bodies and make sure that those who are responsible face proper punishment for their actions. We will strive to ensure the protection of these essential assets in the city.

We've decided to install security cameras and a virtual fence to be able to monitor the lakes across various regions which include Nizampet, Chandanagar, Moinabad, Gandipet, and Mailardevpally.

This is a result of the demolishment of fencing warning signs, fences, and other markings by construction workers as well as individuals who built unauthorized structures in these areas. Virtual fencing will use geo-tagging to mark the boundaries of water bodies.

If someone attempts to intrude onto the protected area, alarms will be raised and the authorities involved will be notified on land conversion row. This action is intended to prevent any further encroachment, and to ensure the protection of the lakes.
