Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in AP, Telangana; Balakrishna, Chiranjeevi Pledge Donations
Tollywood celebrities, including Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR, have pledged donations.
Rains lead to inundation and flooding in several areas of AP and Telangana.
With India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing red and orange alerts for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, respectively, the governments of both states have alerted the concerned departments and warned people to be cautious.
On September 4, IMD issued a red alert for Jayashankar Bhupalapalle, Komaram Bheem, Mancherial, and Mulugu districts in Telangana. Schools and colleges have been shut in these districts until September 7.
Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, an orange alert was issued for NTR and Krishna districts, leading to the closure of educational institutes, including schools in these affected districts.
Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in coastal areas of AP, particularly Vijayawada, leading to flooding in several areas. The rains also damaged crops, roads, and other infrastructure in both states and claimed the lives of 35 people across both states.
Both chief ministers Revanth Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu have visited affected areas and closely monitored the situation.
Indian Air Force and Navy conducted operations to rescue and supply people with daily essentials and food.
In Vijayawada, 50,000 kg of relief material was supplied to affected areas through helicopters.
In Telangana, CM Revanth Reddy announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh to families who lost their lives in floods. Similarly, government employees have also contributed ₹130 crore towards relief measures.
Also, Tollywood celebrities like Balakrishna, Chiranjeevi, Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Vishwak Sen, Mahesh Babu, Jr. NTR, Director Trivikram Srinivas, S. Radhakrishna, and Naga Vamsi have pledged donations to relief funds of both AP and Telangana.
Hindupur MLA Balakrishna, Jr. NTR, Mahesh Babu, and Chiranjeevi have contributed ₹50 lakh each to AP and Telangana.
