Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Thursday provided relief to Cholleti Raja Sukanya, retired head master from Thorrur in Mahabubabad district, directing the government to clear her retirement benefits within eight weeks. The petitioner was among a few dozens of retired government employees who moved the court seeking directions to the government to clear retirement benefits that include commutation, gratuity, provided fund, earned leave and surrender leave encashment. CR Sukumar, counsel for the petitioner, has submitted to the court that the retired head master from Thorrur has repeatedly approached the authorities for over seven months to get her retirement benefits but in vain. Following the submissions of the learned counsel for the petitioner, Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao has directed the authorities to clear the retirement benefits of former government employees within eight weeks from the date of receipt of his orders.

Telangana is estimated to have witnessed around 10,000 government employees retiring since March last year with the school teachers accounting for nearly half of them, said the High Court advocate CR Sukumar, citing media reports. While hundreds of retired government employees have already moved the Telangana High Court seeking directions to release their retirement benefits that were due for months together, dozens of retired government employees have been approaching advocates daily, he said.
