Govt to bring new sports policy soon: CM Revanth
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced that the State government will bring new sports policy soon.
Taking part in a discussion in the Assembly on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the sports policies of other States would be studied and the government would adopt the best one.
Stating that the State government has allocated Rs.321 crore in the current budget to promote sports in Telangana, Revanth Reddy informed that the sports policy would be introduced in the next Assembly session.
"Excelling in sports will also provide good job opportunities and bring laurels to the families. For that reason, the State government has offered Group-1 posts to world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen and International cricketer Mohammad Siraj," he disclosed.
The Chief Minister further stated that the preliminary talks with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the construction of an international cricket stadium at Bagari Kanche have already been completed and the BCCI has responded positively, adding that the State government will soon allot land for stadium at the earliest.
The State government is ready to build stadiums in the mandal headquarters depending on the availability of land. Apart from allocation of funds, a special action plan will be prepared to promote sports in Telangana. Moreover, the government is inviting suggestions to develop sports policy, the Chief Minister said.
He alleged that the stadiums which were built earlier in Hyderabad were being used for political events and private functions and said that the stadiums should be upgraded for encouraging students to pursue sports as a career.
"The State government is ready to take the responsibility of promoting sports. The people should extent their support. The government has no objection to name Potti Sriramulu Telugu University after Suravaram Prathap Reddy if all political parties agrees," Revanth Reddy disclosed.
