GI Tag Application Filed For Palamner Terracota

Hyderabad: An application for Geographical Indication (GI) protection has been filed for Palamaner Terracotta, a traditional craft from Palamaner, Andhra Pradesh. The GI tag will protect Palamaner Terracotta from imitation, empower local artisans, preserve their legacy, and promote sustainable development.
With this GI application, now India stands at 1,467 applications with 658 registered GI tag holders, as on date. The logo for Palamner Terracota GI tag is designed by an in-house team and is a part of the application.
Subhajit Saha, GI Practitioner and the agent for the application informed that there are nearly six applications in the pipeline to be filed from Andhra Pradesh, and about seven products from Telangana.
“GI application safeguards the authenticity of Palamaner Terracotta, protect the artisans’ intellectual property, and enhance its marketability. It also highlights the importance of recognising and protecting India’s traditional crafts, ensuring they continue to thrive in a globalised world,” Saha mentioned in a press note.
