The Delhi Capitals decided to part ways with head coach Ricky Ponting last month after a string of seasons where the team failed to make the playoffs.
Ponting, who had been with the team for seven seasons, hinted that the team might look for a former Indian cricketer to fill the role.
Yuvraj Singh, who retired from international cricket in 2019 and won an IPL title with the Mumbai Indians, is a strong candidate.
During his 12-year IPL career, he played for teams including the Punjab Kings, Pune Warriors India, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
While Yuvraj was also considered for a coaching role with the Gujarat Titans, it now seems he will join the Delhi Capitals.
Although he has no formal coaching experience, he has mentored young players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma.
The final decision on Yuvraj’s role with the Delhi Capitals is still pending.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who is currently the Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, has also expressed his desire to lead the team to an IPL title.
