Virat Kohli climbs to 13th in ICC test batting rankings after century in Perth
Virat Kohli made a remarkable comeback in the ICC Test rankings after scoring his 30th Test century in the second innings of the first Test against Australia in Perth. Despite managing only 5 runs in the first innings, Kohli’s unbeaten century in the second innings helped India secure a massive 295-run victory.
Kohli's century, his first in 2024, propelled him 9 places up the rankings to 13th. This was a significant jump, especially considering he had previously fallen out of the top 10 due to a series of subpar performances in Test cricket. The 36-year-old now sits just outside the top 10, surpassing the likes of Marnus Labuschagne and Babar Azam, who both faltered in Perth.
The century also marked Kohli's 81st international century, bringing him closer to the coveted 10,000-run milestone in Test cricket. He is now the third-highest ranked Indian in the ICC Test batting rankings.
Another Indian cricketer enjoying a significant rise in the rankings is KL Rahul. After scoring 26 runs in the first innings and a crucial 77 in the second, Rahul jumped 13 places to re-enter the top 50, now ranked 49th.
Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his stellar performance, climbing a spot to 2nd place in the Test rankings after his sensational century in Perth. Despite a poor outing in the opening Test, Rishabh Pant maintained his 6th position in the rankings.
Here’s a look at the updated ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings for Indian players:
Yashasvi Jaiswal – 2nd (+1) with 825 points
Rishabh Pant – 6th with 736 points
Virat Kohli – 13th (+9) with 689 points
Shubman Gill – 17th (-1) with 673 points
Rohit Sharma – 26th with 623 points
KL Rahul – 49th (+13) with 535 points
Ravindra Jadeja – 50th (-3) with 534 points
Kohli's resurgence signals a promising return to form as he eyes a strong performance throughout the ongoing Test series in Australia.
