South Africa Qualifies for 2025 Champions Trophy Semi-Finals, Eliminating Afghanistan

South Africa became the fourth and final team to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-finals after a dominant performance against England on Saturday. The Proteas restricted England to just 179 runs in their final league-stage match.

England had to defeat South Africa by at least 207 runs to qualify and allow Afghanistan to take the final spot. However, by the end of the first innings, it was mathematically impossible for England to achieve that, even if South Africa lost the match. With three points and a superior Net Run Rate (NRR) over Afghanistan, South Africa's qualification was assured, effectively ending Afghanistan's campaign.

The Proteas now join India and New Zealand from Group A and Australia from Group B in the top four. The semifinals will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday (February 4 and 5), with the fixtures to be confirmed after India and New Zealand's final league-stage match on Sunday.
