Ravindra Jadeja said on Sunday that Rohit Sharma's Indian cricket team did not let harsh criticism affect them because they believed their captain needed only one good knock to get back to his best form.
The Indian captain at age 37 responded to critics by scoring his 32nd ODI Rohit Sharma hundred with a 119-run knock in 90 balls which led India to a four-wicket win against England at Cuttack ODI victory and secured the series before the final match.
His importance to the team grew because this innings happened just weeks before the Champions Trophy.
Although the entire world supported him, our dressing room lacked any sign of such support. During a post-match media session Jadeja explained how Rohit Sharma form teammate demonstrates great skill by knowing how to construct innings.
The all-rounder explained that top players pass through these phases.
He only needs to deliver one strong inning. The player had enough control to make it seem as if his previous innings performance didn't matter. He played his shots with smoothness while displaying confident body language. Just played normal strokes."
Jadeja responded to external criticism by stating that the team members never experienced panic.
A single inning or two can completely change the situation. Scoring a century before a major competition like the Champions Trophy provides significant momentum. The team benefits from his performance while he demonstrates strong knowledge of his abilities. There's nothing much to think or discuss."
Asked how was the mood after he got to his triple, Jadeja said: As stated earlier when discussing pre-tournament conditions, any batsman achieving a century generates increased self-assurance as well as team morale.
A team always achieves a strong start when their top-order batsmen consistently score runs. The initial 10-15 overs in an India vs England ODI match create a strong foundation for exploiting the death overs.
