There’s been a lot of talk about Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians before the IPL 2025 Auction.
Some reports say he might leave the team. However, the Indian Express claims MI is likely to keep him.
They may also retain Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav.
It’s still unclear if they’ll keep an uncapped player. They might use the Right to Match option on Tim David and try to buy Ishan Kishan.
In other news, the Mumbai Indians have hired Paras Mhambrey as their new bowling coach.
He was India’s bowling coach from late 2021 until the T20 World Cup win in June 2024.
Mhambrey will work with Lasith Malinga and head coach Mahela Jayawardene.
This is Mhambrey’s second time with MI. He was part of the team when they won in 2013 and had other successful runs before that.
Mhambrey was discovered by Frank Tyson in 1990. He played for India in two Tests and three ODIs. He also had a great domestic career with Mumbai, winning the Ranji Trophy five times.
He holds a Level 3 coaching diploma from the National Cricket Academy.
He coached various domestic teams before joining the national setup. He even led the India U19 team to a runner-up finish in the 2020 U19 World Cup.
Mhambrey received praise for developing a strong bowling lineup for the senior team. During the 2023 ODI World Cup, pacer Mohammed Shami recognised his hard work.
Shami placed the ball on his head after taking five wickets against Sri Lanka in Mumbai.
