Rohit Sharma silenced critics with a blistering 90-ball 119 against England in the second ODI on Sunday, securing India's series victory. Despite his first ODI century since October 2023, the Indian skipper reaffirmed that a single innings doesn’t alter his mindset or approach to batting.
"This is what I’m talking about. When you’ve played for years and scored consistently, that means something," Rohit said in a BCCI video. "One or two knocks won’t change the way I bat. I just focused on doing what I do best."
His dominant innings, featuring 12 fours and seven sixes, ended a lean patch, especially in Tests, where his performances had come under scrutiny. Yet, Rohit emphasized the importance of sticking to one's process, regardless of external chatter.
"As long as I give my best every time I step onto the field, that’s all that matters. Some days it works, some days it doesn’t," he stated.
Acknowledging the challenge of rediscovering rhythm, he added, "When you’ve scored so many, you know how to get runs. But while it sounds simple, it’s quite difficult. The key is to enjoy the game, and that’s what I focused on today."
With this century, Rohit reaffirmed his status as a pivotal force in India’s batting lineup, just in time for crucial fixtures ahead.
