No place for Bumrah, Siraj in India squad for T20Is against England: Report
As India gears up for their upcoming five-match T20I series against England starting January 22, reports indicate that key pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj may not feature in the squad. This series follows the Border Gavaskar Trophy and serves as a prelude to the ODI series, which is seen as crucial preparation for the Champions Trophy beginning on February 19.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the T20I squad, expected to be announced over the weekend, will largely consist of players who participated in recent series against Bangladesh and South Africa. Bumrah and Siraj, who were part of India's demanding tour of Australia, are not likely to be included.
In their absence, Arshdeep Singh is set to lead the pace attack, and he could also make the cut for the ODI squad. Meanwhile, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined since the 2023 ODI World Cup, may miss the T20I series but is expected to be included in the ODI squad for the Champions Trophy. Reports suggest Shami has received clearance from the BCCI's Sports Science wing, with his performances for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy boosting his chances.
Promising talent Nitish Kumar Reddy, who impressed during India's tour of Australia, might miss the ODI series but is likely to be selected for the T20Is. All-rounder Washington Sundar and young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to be part of the ODI squad.
