Neeraj Chopra says, ‘’It’s the day of Arshad Nadeem’’
Early on Friday morning, Neeraj Chopra won silver in the javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a season-best throw of 89.45 meters.
Although Neeraj Chopra eclipsed his Tokyo gold medal throw, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem's outstanding performance kept him from finishing first for a second time. Arshad Nadeem made history for Pakistan with an Olympic record throw of 92.97 m, crossing 90 m again with his final attempt to claim gold. Neeraj Chopra threw 1.87 m farther than his Tokyo Olympic gold-winning throw, but he secured silver in Paris. Nadeem is the first Pakistani to win an individual Olympic gold medal. Neeraj has become the third Indian to win an individual Olympic medal at two different games, following PV Sindhu and Sushil Kumar.
"Neeraj Chopra has scripted history by winning a silver medal. He has become the first Indian athlete to win silver and gold medals in athletics. Neeraj gave his best performance today. Hopefully, he will perform even better in the next Olympics," says former India Olympian Om Prakash Singh Karhana.
Even though Neeraj Chopra didn't feel satisfied with the silver medal he received, he still made history for India. He is now the first Indian athlete in Olympic history to win both gold and silver!
