India wrapped up a dominant series against England with a commanding 142-run victory in the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium, sealing a 3-0 whitewash. Shubman Gill’s brilliance with the bat and a collective bowling effort from Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya—who took two wickets each—ensured India’s emphatic win. England’s batting struggles continued, raising serious concerns ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

England's Promising Start Fizzles Out
Openers Ben Duckett (34) and Phil Salt (23) came out swinging, racing to 60 in the Power-play at a blistering 10 runs per over. Duckett was particularly aggressive, hammering four consecutive boundaries off Arshdeep Singh. However, the left-arm pacer had the last laugh, deceiving Duckett with a slower ball that found Rohit Sharma at mid-off.
Tom Banton (38), brought in for Jamie Overton, tried to push the momentum, but Arshdeep struck again, dismissing Salt with a well-directed slower bouncer. England found themselves at 84/2 at the end of the Power-play, but their middle order once again failed to capitalize.
Spin Strikes Again
Joe Root (24) and Banton attempted to steady the innings, but India's spinners proved too good. Kuldeep Yadav cleaned up Banton with a beauty that turned past the outside edge, while Axar Patel trapped Root with an inside edge crashing into the stumps.
Harshit Rana then turned the game further in India’s favor, dismissing Jos Buttler with his very first ball, as an inside edge crashed into the stumps. Harry Brook (19) followed in similar fashion, unlucky as the ball rolled onto the stumps off his bat face.
England Collapse, Atkinson’s Fireworks
Liam Livingstone (9) fell to Washington Sundar’s clever quicker delivery, leaving KL Rahul with an easy stumping. The lower order offered little resistance—Adil Rashid (0) and Mark Wood (9) departed cheaply.
Gus Atkinson provided some late entertainment with a rapid 38-run knock at a strike rate of 200, smashing four boundaries and a six. However, Axar Patel castled him to bring an end to England’s innings at 192, handing India a resounding victory.
Post-Match Reactions
Rohit Sharma (India captain): "Very pleased with the way we played. We knew there would be challenges, but the team handled them well. It’s all about keeping the consistency and freedom in our squad. The World Cup was proof of that, and we want to keep building on this momentum."
Jos Buttler (England captain): "We were outplayed by a fantastic team. Our approach was right, but the execution wasn’t there. We need to figure out how to bat longer against quality opposition."
Shubman Gill: Named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series, Gill’s consistent performances were instrumental in India’s dominant series win.
