The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Team India's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the upcoming ODI series against England on Saturday. The press conference, led by skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, brought significant updates and surprises.

The headline-grabber was Shubman Gill being appointed as the team's vice-captain, a move that highlights his rising stature in Indian cricket. Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace spearhead, also secured a spot in the squad. However, Agarkar noted that a final update on Bumrah's fitness would be provided in February.

Among the wicket-keeping options, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant got the nod over Sanju Samson, making the cut for the 15-man squad. Mohammed Shami returned to ODIs following a successful recovery from injury, alongside Kuldeep Yadav. In contrast, pacer Mohammed Siraj missed out, raising eyebrows among fans and analysts alike.

The squad announcement also highlighted the absence of head coach Gautam Gambhir, who had discussed team selections with Rohit and the selection committee on Friday evening.
