After losing Virat Kohli just before the end of Day 3, India will start their second innings early on Day 4 against New Zealand in the first of three Tests at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, aiming to improve their situation.

On Friday, New Zealand scored 402 runs in their second innings, leading by 356 runs, thanks to Rachin Ravindra's first Test century in India. Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja shared four wickets, each claiming two wickets.

India began well, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma scoring 72 runs for the first wicket.

The Indian captain scored a half-century, but both openers were out quickly after that.

Virat Kohli then partnered with Sarfaraz Khan to add 136 runs for the third wicket but was out to Glenn Phillips on the last ball of the day, leaving India with 231 runs.

As Day 4 begins, India is still trailing by 125 runs.
