England cricketer Harry Brook has been handed a two-year ban from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after pulling out of the 2025 season at the last moment. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Brook about the decision, enforcing its newly introduced policy.

According to a BCCI official, the rule was communicated to all players before they registered for the IPL auction last year. “An official communication has been sent to ECB and Brook about BCCI banning him for two years as per its policy. Every player was informed about this regulation in advance and is expected to comply,” the official told The Indian Express.

This policy aims to ensure commitment from players who enter the auction and prevent last-minute withdrawals that could disrupt team planning. As a result of this ban, Brook will be ineligible to participate in the IPL auctions for the next two seasons.

Brook, a talented batter from England, was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹13.25 crore in IPL 2023 but had a mixed season, scoring one century but struggling for consistency. His absence from this year’s tournament and the subsequent ban mark a significant development in the BCCI’s approach to player commitments in the league.
