Dhoni leads with 200 sixes; Rohit, Rayudu, Karthik cross 100 after 30
MS Dhoni creates IPL history with landmark six for CSK

MS Dhoni has etched his name in the IPL record books yet again! The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend became the first Indian batter to hit 200 sixes in the tournament after turning 30. Despite CSK falling short in a close contest against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, Dhoni's towering six off Tushar Deshpande in the 19th over was a historic moment.
With this achievement, the 43-year-old joins an elite club, trailing only Chris Gayle, who holds the record with 347 sixes post-30. Among Indians, Rohit Sharma (113), Ambati Rayudu (109), and Dinesh Karthik (104) are the only ones to have crossed the 100-sixes mark after their 30s.
Managing Workload and Fitness
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming shed light on Dhoni’s calculated approach to batting, revealing that the former skipper carefully assesses his fitness before deciding when to step in. Dhoni, who has been managing knee issues, avoids extended batting spells but ensures he contributes effectively.
"He judges it himself," Fleming explained. "His body and knees aren't what they used to be. He moves well but has to manage his workload. He can't go all out for 10 overs straight, so he times his entry based on match dynamics."
Dhoni’s batting position has sparked debate, especially after he came in at No. 9 during CSK’s 50-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, against Rajasthan Royals, he stepped in at No. 7 with 54 runs needed off 25 balls. He scored 16 off 11 but couldn't take his team over the line.
"He’s too valuable to us with his leadership and wicketkeeping," Fleming added. "He’s never really batted from the 10th over onward. Around the 13th or 14th over, he assesses the situation and makes his move."
Though CSK couldn’t secure the win, Dhoni’s milestone further cements his legacy as one of IPL’s greatest finishers.
