The third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was marred by controversy when Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was given out despite Snicko technology showing a flat line.

The incident occurred on the fifth ball of the 71st over, when Jaiswal attempted to yank the bat away from Australian captain Pat Cummins, and the on-field umpire dismissed Jaiswal. However, the Indian batter requested a review, expecting to overturn the decision; nothing happened.

To the surprise of many, the third umpire, Sharfuddoula Saikat's decision, has sparked outrage. The MCG crowd reacted with a mixture of shock and outrage, with many Indian fans in attendance chanting "Cheater, Cheater" in protest.

The decision sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Indian fans and cricket pundits questioning the third umpire's decision. "Clearly Not Out" was the consensus among fans, with many calling for the Decision Review System (DRS) to be overhauled.

Commenting on the controversy, BCCI's Vice President Rajeev Shukla posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Yashasvi Jayyaswal was clearly not out. The third umpire should have taken note of what technology was suggesting. While overruling the ruling field umpire, the third umpire should have solid reasons."

Jaiswal's dismissal left India with little chance, as the Australians bowled India out and won the fourth Test at the MCG by 185 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The last test will now be played in Sydney.
