BCCI Issues Stern Statement to Pakistan Following Pahalgam Terror Attack: "Will Not Play"

In light of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla emphasized that India will refrain from playing any bilateral cricket against Pakistan. The last bilateral series between the teams occurred during Pakistan's visit to India for a limited-overs series in 2012-13, while India's last trip to Pakistan was in 2008. Currently, the two nations only compete against each other during international tournaments, such as the ODI World Cup 2023, in which Pakistan visited India. However, India declined to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, with matches relocated to Dubai.
Shukla stated, "We stand with the victims and strongly condemn this act. We will act in accordance with our government's position. India will not participate in bilateral series with Pakistan because of this stance. However, we do engage with Pakistan during ICC events, as they are aware of the ongoing situation.”
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also shared his condolences regarding the attack. “The cricketing community is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam. On behalf of the BCCI, we condemn this despicable act and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected. We stand united during this time of tragedy,” Saikia commented.
In a poignant display of solidarity, the BCCI paid tribute to the victims during the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. A moment of silence was observed before the match, allowing fans and viewers to honor those who lost their lives. Both team captains expressed their condolences during the toss, condemning the violent act.
To further commemorate the occasion, players, match officials, and staff wore black armbands throughout the game. The commentary team acknowledged these gestures on air, highlighting the emotional impact of the tribute on the nation’s collective grief.
The BCCI also made the deliberate choice to keep the game low-key, omitting cheerleader performances, fireworks, and celebratory music, thus creating a respectful atmosphere in honor of the solemn occasion.
