Hyderabad: Kankatala, renowned for its innovative campaigns, is celebrating Women's Day by shining a spotlight on 8 remarkable women achievers who wear sarees. These real-life heroes include Sadhna Singh, an Animal Activist, Dr. Anjali Adinath, a Breast Cancer Surgeon, Suchithra Balasubramanian, an Award-Winning Vocalist and Harikatha Exponent, Olly Esse, an Italian Disc Jockey, Amrita Rajpal, an Edupreneur, Ashwini Narayan, a Handloom Stylist, Siddhi Manerikar, a Pro Rock Climber, and Nirupa Bhatt, a Gems & Jewellery Industry Expert.
For generations, Kankatala has been dedicated to normalizing the saree and honoring Indian women who embody this iconic garment through various campaigns and initiatives. The 'Heroes in Sarees' campaign aims to highlight the achievements of women who have broken barriers across different fields while draped in a saree.
The initiative kicked off with an online and offline contest across 13 outlets nationwide, encouraging the brand's social media community of 230k followers to nominate the Heroes in Sarees from their lives. Over 1000 nominations poured in, from which 8 exceptional women were chosen to be the faces of the Women's Day campaign.
Each of these women represents a diverse profession, from Indian music to rock climbing, showcasing the versatility and strength of women in sarees. The campaign was led by Anirudh Kankatala, Director of Kankatala Sarees, with direction from Filmmaker Ashutosh Warang and production by Pandemonium Pictures.
"As a brand, we believe there is nothing a woman in a saree cannot achieve, and this initiative brings that belief to life," said Anirudh Kankatala. "Selecting just 8 women from the numerous entries was a challenging task, but we are proud to have showcased these inspiring stories."
Steering away from traditional Women's Day campaigns, the collaboration between Kankatala and Ashutosh Warang aimed to celebrate the real women Heroes in Sarees. "It was a pleasure working with Anirudh Kankatala on this project, as his insights helped shape the campaign's journey," shared Ashutosh Warang, Fashion Filmmaker.
