Contain Mosquito Menace Before Sleep Disorders And Health Issues Worsen
The threat of mosquito bites and humming of the small insect seems to be looming large on the people across the country. It has been to such extremes that almost 55 per cent of people attribute their disturbed sleep and sleep losses to the annoying buzzing sound of mosquito and their deadly bites. Sleep losses often cause various mosquito-borne diseases, which are rampant in almost in every nook and corner. When a mosquito bites, it uses its mouthpart to pierce the skin and sucks blood, while injecting saliva into the skin. The body reacts to the saliva, causing the bump and itching. Scratching the bite can lead to infection. Mosquitoes can carry viruses that cause diseases like west Nile, malaria, yellow fever and dengue. In today’s fast-paced world, achieving comfortable and restful sleep has become a priority for many individuals. People are willing to go to great lengths and incur significant expenditures to create a cozy sleep environment for the entire family. Ironically, despite their best efforts, the mosquito menace continues to disrupt sleep and render these endeavours futile as the tiny insects manage to infiltrate homes and bite people. Adding to the gravity of the situation, unseasonal rains and erratic weather patterns have created ideal breeding conditions, making mosquitoes a year-round threat.
If finding of a recent survey on: ‘One Mosquito, Countless Threats’, conducted by the market research firm-YouGov, commissioned by Goodknight, a leading household insecticide brand from Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), are pointers, then 55 per cent of Indians find this nuisance as the main cause for their disturbed sleep. In north India, 55 per cent from Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh had similar experiences at nights. About 53 per cent of south Indians from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana State show similar levels of concern. That’s not all. It is a matter of grace concern that on average close to 49 per cent of children experience sleep disruptions due to mosquito bites. The findings of the study drive home the point that mosquitos have a dangerous impact on our lives, in addition to disturbed sleeps. With more than half of population across the country reporting mosquito bites and buzzing sounds among the major causes of disturbed sleep, this issue goes beyond mere discomfort. More importantly, this has an adverse impact on lives, especially of children and the elderly, the vulnerable sections.
